Established in 2006, Tenuta di Castellaro estate originates from the deep desire of Massimo Lentsch, an entrepreneur from Bergamo, to produce natural wine celebrating the territory of Lipari, an Aeolian Island in Sicily.
Tenuta di Castellaro pays homage to the beauty of these Aeolian islands through a project that rediscovers traditional viticulture respecting the native natural landscape.
This mission was assigned to Salvo Foti a famous oenologist and agronomist who is an advocate for traditional winemaking in Sicily. The 30 hectares of the estate have been planted in accordance with the ancient growing systems with a non-chemically treated chestnut wood pole split by hand. The vine shoots were grafted with Malvasia di Lipari, Carricante, Nero d’Avola and Corinto grapes.
Tenuta di Castellaro wines are obtained with limited mechanical intervention: cultivation of the plants is entirely manual and vinification is achieved without the use of pumps. Tenuta di Castellaro vocation is to contribute to safeguarding vast agricultural and natural areas in the conviction that the amazing sensory and qualitative properties of their wines derive from this source of wealth.
